The Wilderness Act Performance Series

Oct 5, 2014 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free
Location:

The Wilderness Act Performance Series is a musical and artistic celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964.  Through the commissioning of new music and art, this performance series builds public appreciation of the Wilderness Act’s impact on natural and cultural preservation.  Forming a collaboration between composers, artists and public green spaces, we will ask the questions: “How do we appreciate and connect to Earth in our current urban technological society?” and “How has the perception of wilderness changed with the growing disconnection from nature?”

The featured parks will be partnered with musicians and artists in order to develop an environmentally creative connection. These Artist-Wilderness Collaborations will culminate with the Wilderness Act Performance Series. The Performance Series will be a succession of afternoon performances at each of the hosting venues.

The Davidson-Arabia Mountain Preserve is a spectacular environment unique to Georgia and the Piedmont Region and is a perfect place to host this event.  The monadnock outcropping offers an exceptional home to lichen, moss, plants, and trees who have formulated an existence completely symbiotic with their extreme granite environment.
