Family Sunset Hike at Arabia Mountain

What to expect: Unwind with us on a peaceful, ranger-led sunset walk at Arabia Mountain. We’ll begin at the Nature Center before heading out for a gentle 1.5-mile walk to watch the sunset over the granite landscape. Along the way, we’ll explore Arabia’s unique ecosystems, wildlife, and seasonal wonders.

Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Rachel Roberts, the DeKalb County Park Naturalist at Arabia Mountain.

Where to meet: Find Ranger Rachel in the Nature Center (3787 Klondike Rd.).

What to bring: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and outdoor hiking shoes. You may want to dress in layers (warm early evenings can cool quickly) as well as bring a headlamp or flashlight for the return walk. We also encourage bringing your own reusable water bottle.

Note: Strollers, carts, and other wheeled items are not allowed on top of the mountain. Come prepared to carry anything you want to bring.

Restrooms: Public restrooms are available in front of the Nature Center. You will look for a brown building with red doors.

Recommended ages: This program content is designed for all ages.

Dogs: Feel free to bring your four legged walking buddy. All dogs must be on a leash for entirety of the program. We ask that dogs also stay out of the solution pits at the peak, and humans pick up any pet waste deposited during the program.

Weather contingency: This program will be held rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs (RPCA).

Walking distance: Easy-moderate – Approx. 1.5 miles total on a mix of gravel, rock, and paved surfaces. Suitable for most fitness levels.

Exposure: This walk is mostly under shaded tree canopy while the mountain is in full sun.

Trail surface & accessibility: This program stays on concrete PATH until the mountain where the trail is on rock and gravel. There are sections of the walk that are quite steep.
