MLK Day Of Service 2026 At E.M.B.A.R.C.
Jan 19 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
FREEPlease join us in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as we preserve the beauty of the forest at the Farm while creating an outdoor classroom space where all can feel safe and welcome.
What to expect: We will work to remove privet, kudzu, and sweet gum trees to progress with our Forestry Management Plan designed by Georgia Forestry Commission’s Dave Long. We will use the plant material to build a wattle around our outdoor classroom that will provide future educational opportunities to visitors. Additionally, we will locate logs that will be inoculated with mushroom spores and make up our mushroom garden.
Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Rachel
Where to meet: Find Ranger Rachel under the green pavilion at the end of the parking lot by the large field. There will be a sign-in sheet on the picnic table, so please sign in upon arrival.
What to bring: Wear appropriate footwear, dress for the weather, and bring a refillable water bottle and work gloves if you have them. There will be a limited supply of gloves to borrow.
Recommended ages: This program content is designed for adults and older youth.
Weather contingency: This program will be held rain or shine, unless conditions are dangerous.
Walking distance: Trail is less than half a mile from the pavilion and outdoor classroom is less than a quarter mile from the pavilion.
Exposure: Some sections of removal might be exposed to wind and sun, while other sections will be under tree canopy.
