Live Concert at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit

May 5, 2013 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

$15,00

The Georgia Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will perform works of J.S. Bach and Ralph Vaugah Williams. Bach’s joyful Cantata No. 11 (1735), also known as the Ascension Oratorio, will be contrasted with Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs (1911).

This concert performance by the Georgia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is their first appearance in the Gothic Church at the Monastery with its grand acoustics, a perfect celebration of this great solemn feast of the Ascension. The GSO Chorus ends its season with this program of works by J.S Bach and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Bach’s joyful Cantata No. 11 (1735), sometimes known as the Ascension Oratorio. This piece will be contrasted with Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs (1911), which sets poems by George Herbert from his 1633 collection The Temple: Sacred Poems in this work for strings, baritone and chorus. Both pieces are lovely works celebrating the season of Easter.
