Great Southeast Pollinator Census At EMBARC
Aug 22 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
FREEProtecting the Southeast’s Pollinators One Count at a Time!
What to expect: The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. It is designed for everyone to participate and make a difference in pollinator conservation!
Visit the EMBARC Community Youth Farm Pollinator Garden to help count our hard-working Pollinators! You will be able to take turns counting how many types of pollinators land on different flowers for a short amount of time.
If you cannot come out, please visit this link to download the forms and count the pollinators in your yards and community. Every survey helps the science community collect real data!
Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Rachel Roberts, the DeKalb County Park Naturalist at the EMBARC Youth Farm as well as Susan Meyers from Monarchs Across Georgia.
Where to meet: Find Ranger Rachel or Susan Meyers in the garden to collect your clipboard and receive instructions on how to perform the census.
What to bring: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. Please bring your own water and any snacks you might need to stay energized and hydrated throughout the program. We encourage participants to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection, as well as insect repellent to keep the bugs at bay.
Restrooms: The available bathroom is the portapotty located in the parking lot by park head quarters on the other side of the park (professionally cleaned twice a week).
Recommended ages: This program content is designed for all ages.
Dogs: This program is NOT appropriate for dogs, so please leave your pup at home.
Weather contingency: This program will cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Notice will be sent out by 8am in the event of a cancellation.
Walking distance: Less than a tenth of a mile – distance from parking spot to the garden.
Exposure: This program is held in the garden under full sun.
Trail surface & accessibility: This program stays on established gravel surfaces in the garden. Questions if this program will work for your mobility? Reasonable accommodations may be available upon request. To request an accommodation, please contact the program organizer at least 48 hours in advance of the event. Contact Ranger Rachel: rcroberts@dekalbcountyga.gov
Program Photos: We love documenting our programs and may share photographs on DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs’ websites, publications, and social media platforms. While participants are welcome to take their own photos, photographs taken by staff are generally intended for County documentation and promotional purposes and are not routinely distributed to participants.
