South River Canoe Outing With The South River Watershed Alliance
Aug 2, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
$40.00Location: Panola Shoals Trailhead
After put in at Panola Shoals it doesn’t take long to put the hurried pace of life behind us. The sounds of cars and people are quickly replaced by the sounds of rushing water, the singing of birds, and sometimes just unbelievable silence. There is a bit more gradient to this section of the South River. The water displays more life and riffles here and is generally more shallow than the Rockdale section. Abundant protected greenspace surrounds this part of the river virtually ensuring wildlife sitings of deer, geese, birds, fish, turtles and other wildlife. For certain, the uniqueness of the riparian landscape including interesting granite outcroppings will make for good conversation with your canoe mate.
Trip distance is about 5 miles and takes about 4 hours from put in to take out. Plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m. departure. Canoeing experience is not required but individuals should be physically able to paddle for an extended period without tiring. Cost is $40 per person which includes canoe rental, insurance, and lunch served at end of outing. Shuttle service back to put in is provided. Space is limited. Contact Jackie (404) 285-3756 if you have questions. Kayakers should call for additional information, RSVP Here.
