New Mountain Bike Trails in the AMNHA

Intermediate Mountain Biking Trailhead at South Rockdale Community Park.

Over five miles of new trails have opened at South Rockdale Community Park, creating new opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area (AMNHA). Supporting mountain biking, walking, and horse-riding, these new trails bring a new avenue for exploration of one of the AMNHA’s green spaces.

These new trails have been in the works since 2013, when the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association approached the County about developing biking trails at South Rockdale Community Park. The County took the opportunity to pursue a master trail plan, including trails for people enjoying the park on foot, on wheels, or even on hooves (in the case of horse riders). The mountain bike trails that just opened are a key part of that master trail plan, which may ultimately include an additional four miles of trail at the park. This first phase of trail-building was completed with support from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Recreational Trails Program, as well as Rockdale County SPLOST funds. The new trails can be accessed from the existing Rockdale River Trail, a section of the paved Arabia Mountain PATH trail system. (Please note that horses are not allowed on the PATH – horse riding trails have their own entrances, accessible from the South Rockdale Park parking lot.)

The new trails include Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced routes and are open from dawn to dusk. Bike trail rules are:

  1. Ride at your own risk.
  2. Bicycle helmets are required.
  3. Keep at a safe distance.
  4. Yield to pedestrians and horses at crossings.
  5. Refrain from using trails if wet or muddy.
  6. Please call (770) 278-7259 for any assistance.
  7. Please follow and respect all rules while using the trails.

And, most importantly, have fun!

Trail segments can be accessed from the Rockdale River Trail, a segment of the paved Arabia Mountain PATH. They can also be accessed from South Rockdale Park. Please note that horses are not allowed on the PATH.
