Slave Quarters at the Lyon Farm
Today, the Flat Rock community is one of the oldest Black communities in Georgia. The Lyon Farm is a key part of the community’s history. This historic site is the place where the Flat Rock ancestors endured slavery.
Although the Lyon Farm is relatively small, a far cry from the massive plantations most often associated with slavery, dozens of enslaved people worked here prior to the Civil War.
Watch and listen as the Flat Rock staff and Board discuss the history of the Lyon Farm, the enslaved people who lived there, and the slave quarters in which they lived.
