Show Local Waterways Some Love
Georgia is a big state and we need your help to monitor the health of local streams, rivers, and lakes. The Georgia Adopt-A-Stream program was created to provide citizens like you with the tools and training to evaluate and protect their local waterways! Come to a training class at Arabia Mountain to learn more.
The class will be taught by Adopt-A-Stream Coordinator Michael O’Shield in the Nature Center at Arabia Mountain. You’ll learn about the process of registering the waterway you want to monitor. You’ll also study safe and effective ways to measure the health of your stream and how to report you findings.
You can pick your own stream to monitor or you can help keep track of two which impact the NHA. The South River flows directly through the NHA, between the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve and Panola Mountain State Park. The Yellow River is the northeast border of NHA and joins the South River in Jackson Lake. The South River Watershed Alliance and the Yellow River Preservation and Conservation Group are both impressive grassroots groups who are rallying for the protection of these waterways. However, they need help from community members like you to collect vital statistics about river health.
Come join us and over 50 Adopt a Stream groups…
Together we can help protect Georgia’s waterways!
