Monastery of the Holy Spirit’s Abbey Store is Open for the Holidays
The Monastery of the Holy Spirit’s Abbey store, closed for much of the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now open for the holidays. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 11:00am-4:30pm.
A popular stop for food and gifts within the National Heritage Area, the Monastery’s Abbey Store hosts a variety of holiday favorites. That includes fudge, fruitcake and biscotti made by the monks themselves (seen above). You can also stop for lunch in the Monastery’s café.
Although the Abbey Store is currently open, the Abbey Church remains under construction. Work began earlier this year to complete some long-delayed repairs and renovations of the historic Church, some of which have been on hold since the structure was finished in the mid-1900’s. People can still enter and sit in contemplation or simply to view the historic building from the roped-off area near the entrance. Renovations will finish sometime in 2022.
The Monastery’s grounds and trails – including the southeastern terminus of the Arabia Mountain PATH trail, the 34+ mile paved trail that runs throughout the NHA, are still open for recreation. Bring your bike or simply hike along the PATH through the Monastery’s Honey Creek Woodlands, and enjoy the forests and waterways of the Georgia Piedmont region.
