This event is a musical and artistic celebration of a local monadnock, Arabia Mountain. Through the commissioning of new music and art, this performance builds public appreciation of the The Davidson-Arabia Mountain Preserve. The Artists, inclusive of composers, poets, photographers, and visual artists, have created art directly inspired by the inherent qualities and living ecosystems of the Preserve.
This spectacular environment is unique to Georgia and the Piedmont Region and will also be the location of the art presentation. The granite outcrop offers an exceptional home to lichen, moss, plants, and trees who have formulated an existence completely symbiotic with their extreme environment.
To preserve the fragile environment all guests MUST RSVP and we have a limited number of spots available.
Event Details
Participants will meet at the Davidson Arabia Mountain Nature Center for a reception and orientation at 2:00pm. You’ll be treated to tea made from native plants. Then at 2:30 you’ll be taken on a guided hike through the forest at the base of Arabia Mountain where you’ll find artists waiting for you, with their inspired pieces.
Environmental composer, Stephen Wood, will lead the audience on a creative exploration of Arabia’s spectacular and arcane ecosystem. The 2 mile long “Art Hike” will be present site-specific works by two composers, a poet, photographer, and visual artist who were directly inspired by their experiences at Davidson-Arabia Mountain Preserve.
This event is part of the final celebration for Monadnock Madness, a month-long adventure that invites you to discover three local granite peaks in one month, or in just one day!
