Homeschool Wednesdays TEST HTML

The Vann House is hosting a full season of homeschool days for the 2019-2020 school year. Starting in September, Homeschool Wednesdays will take place once a month and will cover many diverse topics about the people who have lived on the Vann Plantation and the daily activities they took part in. Pre-registration required.

Space is limited, so be sure to register your family in advance.

Each program will be suitable for ages 6-17, students will be split up by age for the program. Children age 5 and under will be the responsibility of their parent.

$5.50 per student. Library passes will not be accepted for this program.

Rain days will be scheduled if necessary for some of the programs. The facility has open-air picnic tables for family use, and full restroom facilities with changing stations.

September 4th, All about the Vann House: Creep through the farmstead cabins, get an in depth tour of the Vann House and learn everything about the Vann’s.

October 2nd, Tools and Weapons Across Time: See pre-European contact tools compared to their 19th century Cherokee counterpart.

November 6th, Quilting and Cooking: We’ll be cooking up some old-fashioned food and learning about the old ones who quilted for their families.

December 18th, Winter Festivals at Spring Place: Tour the house decorated for the holidays and learn about Cherokee and Moravian winter festivals.

January 8th, Pottery and Painting: Pottery has been used by all cultures across time, learn about Cherokee pottery and the ochre used to paint it.

February 5th, Black History Month: We’ll talk about slavery and the enslaved Africans who lived on the Vann Plantation while working with cotton fibers.

March 4th, Women’s History Month: Learn about some of the important historic women of Spring Place while working in our Three-Sisters Garden.

April 1st, Hit the Trail: Take a hike down our Pinhoti Trail while listening for birds, identifying native plant species and poisonous plants.

May 6th, Archaeology Day: Learn about artifacts and how they get buried. We’ll show you the tools and steps archaeologists take to dig them up.
