Folktales by Firelight

Jun 27, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free
Location:

Hiking, a campfire and storytelling; what a great combination! We have two event options below. Pick one, or stay for an entire evening of family fun! This is a rain or shine event, so bring your galoshes if we get a shower!

night hike3pm – 5pm: We’ll gather at the Nature Center and then head off on a beginner hike (about 1 mile). We’ll stop in a few shady spots for story breaks. The folktales will be suited to the age of the children who attend and are sure to entertain. You’ll also be treated to insider information about the plants and animals that call Arabia Mountain home.  You can end the hike around a campfire making s’mores!

7pm – 9pm: We’ll gather around the fire pit next to the Nature Center for a primitive fire starting demonstration. THen we’ll all settle in around the crackling  fire and hear fascinating folktales before ending the day with s’mores.

Our professional storyteller and hike leader is Jonah McDonald, adventure guide and author of Hiking Atlanta’s Hidden Forests: Intown and Out. Though the hike and storytelling are kid-friendly, all ages will enjoy the program. Please RSVP so we can prepare enough s’more supplies for you and your family!
